Job Description

The successful applicant will perform responsible professional and technical work, under the direction of the Archivist, for the provision of archival services for the Health Sciences Library’s Faculty of Medicine Founders’ Archive. Duties include working with a preservation management system for digital records; digitizing archival materials into a document management system; arranging and describing archival accessions; preparing finding aids; performing initial sorting and arranging of archival collections; assisting with the security of the archives collection; identification and data entry of basic metadata for archival materials in various databases; assisting patrons in the use of archival materials; and performing other related duties as required.
Experience (up to one year) in archival work; graduation with a university degree in history, or a related discipline; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.  Extensive experience and understanding of best practices in the digitization of archival materials, and knowledge of the concepts and techniques of accessioning, describing, and arranging archival materials using Rules for Archival Description (RAD) is required. Strong interpersonal communication skills, a commitment to client service, the ability to work independently, and knowledge of the history of the Faculty of Medicine are required. Experience in the use of a digital management preservation system would be an asset.
