SOCIAL MEDIA JOURNALIST, US

Publication or Company
Industry Internet/Online/New Media, Newspapers, Social Media
Job DurationFull Time
Job LocationNew York, NY
Job RequirementsThe Financial Times is looking for a journalist to develop its US social media presence. This New York-based role is an exciting opportunity to help shape the way we distribute our journalism, engage readers, develop new audiences and try new technologies.

Social media, on which the FT has an audience of more than 12.5m across all platforms, plays an increasingly important role in bringing traffic to FT.com, in creating conversation and strengthening relationships with our audiences.

Working with the team in London, the New York news desk and the broader audience engagement team, you will write posts for our social media sites, moderate comments on FT.com and be a liaison between our audience and journalists.

You may also write stories, blog posts and more, specifically for particular social media sites. This could include stories on breaking news, set-piece news events and more. This journalism is aimed at engaging communities on social media and inviting readers to come to FT.com.

Social media sites play an important role in telling certain stories, such as the protests last year in Hong Kong. You will use social networks to listen and track big news events and, in relevant cases, to add reaction to our stories. You will also help others in the newsroom to familiarize themselves with these aspects of social media, as tools not just to promote but also to investigate stories, follow news and find sources.

You will have a willingness to experiment with new platforms and apps, and a readiness to use data to inform our publishing decisions. You will train newsroom colleagues on social media and support them in their community building.

Required experience:
• 2+ years of journalism experience. Reporting or blogging experience required.
• Demonstrated experience building audience through social networks (Twitter, Facebook and beyond)
• Clear, accurate writing style and excellent communication skills
• Experience using social analytics to determine social ROI
• Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and environment
Desirable experience:
• Experience producing multimedia a plus
• Experience with large scale enterprise CMS a plus
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Strong team player with desire to collaborate with others
• Clear passion for FT digital media and a strong understanding of the FT’s journalism and values.

Application deadline is Friday 26 June 2015.
