JUSTICE SERVICES COORDINATOR AT KWANLIN DÜN FIRST NATION IN WHITEHORSE

Kwanlin Dün First Nation (KDFN) is seeking a Justice Services Coordinator. Reporting to the Director, the incumbent is a member of the management team responsible for the day to day administration and delivery of culturally appropriate justice initiatives for the community of Kwanlin Dün First Nation (KDFN). The incumbent provides advice and assistance to citizens on justice related matters. Working harmoniously with other justice-based , interdepartmental staff and inter-governmental/agency staff is essential for success.
The qualified individual will assist the department with funding applications, monitor and evaluate projects and initiate the development of policies and guidelines related to community justice initiatives, programs and services. Liaising and collaborating with agencies working with KDFN, including Yukon Government, Canada and non-government organizations will be necessary in order to maintain referral networks and ensure active and effective case management.

Qualifications
• Diploma in Criminology, Law/ Aboriginal Justice or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of successful experience related to family law & support, criminal and restorative justice
• Knowledge of and experience with the process of law making, policy development
• Experience with alternative and restorative justice measures experience is an asset
• Successful experience working within the formal justice system in the areas of family law including child welfare and youth justice, adult protection, probations and community wellness
• Project management experience
• Working knowledge and practical application of community justice philosophies, Canadian Criminal Code and Youth Criminal Justice Act, and other justice specific practices in Yukon, and familiarity with National trends;
• Demonstrated experience with case management, mediation, conflict resolution & counselling
• Facilitation skills and experience lead meetings, awareness forums, workshops and seminars
• Experience working in partnership with other criminal justice agencies, First Nations and the RCMP
• Knowledge of and experience working successfully in a First Nation community is an asset.
Knowledge of Aboriginal Peoples history with formal justice, residential and child welfare systems and familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in this position.
Conditions of Employment: Acceptable criminal records check with vulnerable sector search, Valid Class 5 Driver’s license and reliable transportation
Note: An equivalent combination of post-secondary coursework, training, workshops and significant experience in will equally be considered.
