Job Description

Summer Student Position- Health Promotion Assistant
The Canadian Cancer Society is a national, community-based organization whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer.
We currently have a summer student vacancy for a Health Promotion Assistant in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL.
Primary Duties:
The key area of responsibility for this position will be in the area of health education and promotion including topics such as smoking cessation, healthy choices-healthy future, environmental contaminants, with a focus on SunSense-program which increases awareness of sun safe practices.  The Health Promotion Assistant will attend various community events, festivals and activities to promote cancer prevention through healthy lifestyle choices.  Some administrative duties will also be required.
Qualifications:
We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic student who is currently studying in the field of community studies, recreation, health sciences, or communications.  Applicants should possess above average oral communication skills and be comfortable speaking in front of crowds and meeting new people. The student will have the opportunity to learn, utilize, and improve upon skills relating to community engagement, and public speaking.
Applicants must have a valid driver’s license with access to their own vehicle.
Funding for these positions has been provided by Service Canada through the Canada Summer Jobs Program.  Applicants must meet all criteria of this program.  Specifically;
a) be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
b) have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
c)  be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
d) be legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
This is a 7-week, full time position with a planned start day of July 14th. The salary for this position is $10.25/hour.
