A
Sessional Instructor is required to teach a special topics course in
the Department of Modern Languages entitled Writing Skills for English
Second Language (ESL) Learners. Offered in collaboration with the
English Academic Preparation Program, this is a two-semester
continuation of the pilot that was offered in 2013-14, subject to
budgetary approval.
ML 209 Writing Skills for English Second Language (ESL) Learners
This course is designed for students whose first language is not English and who have demonstrated an advanced level of English reading, writing, speaking and listening (minimum CanTEST level 4.5 in reading and listening and 4 in writing). Using a combined focus on reading and writing skills, with strong emphasis on lexical development and applied grammar, the course enables students to improve academic writing through extensive reading and writing exercises.
Application Instructions:
The successful applicant should have a background in teaching English as a Second or Additional language and experience in teaching writing to non-native English speakers at the university level. A Masters degree in a relevant discipline or area of study is a minimum requirement.
